Host Video Project

WHAT IS AIRBNB EXPERIENCES ?

Airbnb experiences are one-of-a-kind activities designed and hosted by locals. Unlike a typical tour or workshop, experiences go beyond the activities themselves. They offer a deep-dive into the local host's world through their passion.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Encourage videos for Experience Product Display Page by designing a simple process for host to get aware about the feature, educate them about the video making process and provide them easiest possible option to upload the video.

OVERVIEW OF THE OLD EXPERIENCE

STEP 1 : CONTACTING THE HOST

Reaching out to each independent host based on their experience performance to boost their booking by adding videos.

PAIN POINTS

Identifying the correct host by looking at data is very time consuming and complex task.

STEP 2 : BRIEFING THE HOST

Educating the host about the whole process
of video shooting, its benefit, uploading the
shot videos.

PAIN POINTS

Repeating the process again and again
requires lot of human efforts.

STEP 3 : SHARING OF DATA

Asking the host to submit the clip for editing purpose via Wetransfer.

PAIN POINTS

A lot of host were not able to compile the file
and send it using Wetransfer as its also a
new tool for them.

STEP 5 : UPLOADING OF FINISHED VIDEO

Once the video is edited it comes back and needs to be uploaded.

PAIN POINTS

Additional task and requires a person completely dedicated for this work.

STEP 5 : VIDEO CHANGE REQUEST

If the host does not like the video he reaches out to make certain changes which leads to again following all the steps.

PAIN POINTS

Lot of time is again wasted for sometimes very minor changes.

PROJECT SUMMARY

It’s challenging for hosts to get video on their PDP as each step of the process has significant hurdles a host must overcome. Along with that the host also have problem learning about the opportunity: Hosts don’t know that video feature is available to them. The idea was to come up with a process which is very easy and seamless for the host to understand all aspects of the video upload functionality and also a process to educate host about the video guidelines.

PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED

GOALS ENVISAGED

  • Increase the overall percentage of PDP views with video from 8.5% to 25% by end of year.

  • Increase Active Experiences with Video in Top 100 markets from 1% to 10% by end of Quarter 1.

  • Improve Host UX by increasing conversion rate though video upload funnel which is less than 20% now to somewhere between 20% to 30%.

  • Improve adoption among both top performers, and among newly onboarded Hosts as a way to improve chances of early success (9% booking in first 30 days → 20%).

PRODUCT STRATEGY

  • Page in the product where hosts can learn about video requirements and access the Airtable submission form.

  • Basic video management in product: Once uploaded to MagicOPs by MediaOps, Host can view their video and email the team to request changes.

  • Video shooting guide for host and examples of other well shot experiences available on the platform.

OVERVIEW OF THE NEW EXPERIENCE

STEP 1 : HOST RECEIVES AN EMAIL
